Fall Landscaping Tips

It is hard to believe that fall is just around the corner! The air is beginning to have that “autumn feel” to it. Before we know it, the lush, green leaves will be turning to a brilliant rainbow of fall colors.

Some of you look forward to the winter months. For others, we hate to see the warm, sunny weather slipping away and the cold weather coming in its place. But we still have a few months left before the snow is blowing. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of the fall season: 1. Fall is a great time to plant! Often, we think of spring time as the time to get out the trowels and shovels to work in the garden and flower beds. While this is true, don’t be too quick to put them away for the winter! Fall is a great time for planting as well! The fact is, fall is the BEST time to plant for most of you trees, shrubs, and bulbs. When the cooler weather comes, and the trees and shrubs look like they are “shutting down” for the winter, the roots are actually getting in “high gear”! So if you plant them over that time, the roots get a head start for next year and will be better established to put all their energies into the leaves/flowers in the spring! 2. Create a place of warm enjoyment on cool, fall evenings. Don’t miss out on the beauty of the fall evenings because it is too cool to be sitting outside. Fall is a great time to put in a fire pit or outdoor fire place. You can’t beat sitting around the warm glow of a fire, roasting hotdogs and marshmallows while sipping hot, spiced apple cider! 3. Light up your landscape! As fall gets closer and closer, the days get shorter and shorter. Go ahead and put in some lighting so you can enjoy your landscaping later into the evening!
